Sri Lanka’s National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS), launched and approved by Cabinet in 2023, is led by the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs. Aligned with UNSCR 1325 and CEDAW, the plan includes six thematic priorities and emphasizes inclusive implementation.
Key results of Sri Lanka’s WPS NAP implementation include the establishment of a Core Steering Committee to provide strategic direction and oversee implementation, and an Inter-Agency Coordination and Assessment Committee (IACAC) to monitor and assess progress across six thematic areas. Capacity-building sessions were conducted to enhance the technical capacity of lead ministries and sub-agencies, while a centralized progress tracking mechanism was introduced for systematic data collection and reporting. Twelve lead ministries, sub-agencies, and non-state actors are actively engaged in implementation. A prioritization workshop was held to identify annual action areas, and continuous coaching helped ministries to capture and report outcome-level changes.
