The first Slovenian National Action Plan (NAP) on Women, Peace and Security was drafted at the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in close cooperation with other ministries, particularly the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities. The objective of the first NAP was to link the activities in Slovenia and the international community within the scope of the wider issue of Women, Peace and Security, which have been transformed into specific and realistic political commitments with measurable objectives.

The aim of the second NAP was to increase activities in integrating a gender perspective in activities within security policy (such as disarmament, counterterrorism and fight against violent extremism etc.) and to strengthen awareness-raising activities, education and training on Women, Peace and Security (also in other sectors besides Slovenian Armed Forces and Police) and highlight promotion of accountability for the international community, as well as keep high standards of Slovenian personnel deployed to operations and missions abroad.
