The Latvian Women, Peace and Security National Action Plan envisages three main tasks:

  1. Raising public awareness of gender equality issues and the elimination of gender-based violence, especially in the younger generation;
  1. Training for the defence and home affairs sector, including the establishment of a gender adviser’s position;
  1. The transfer of Latvia’s experience and knowledge.

All of these three tasks are implemented in close cooperation with non-governmental organizations, civil society and our foreign partners. Training on gender equality and elimination of gender-based violence in the Latvian defence and home affairs sector will involve cooperation with Canada and the Nordic countries which have expertise and knowledge on gender equality issues gathered over many years.

Latvia has also developed a communications plan – the Plan has its Ambassadors – well-known people from different backgrounds, who raise awareness on Women, Peace, Security and gender equality topics to the public on regular basis.
