Chile

Chile has adopted two National Action Plans on Women, Peace and Security. The first NAP was structured on the basis of objectives and actions committed by the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Women’s Service (SERNAM). Its objectives were grouped into four approaches: Gender, Rights, Participation and Coordination.  

For the second NAP, an Intersectoral Table made of the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Women and Gender Equity was formed. The NAP incorporated the most recent United Nations recommendations on the matter as well as the proposals of different civil society organizations. A system of indicators was specifically incorporated to verify and control its application in a foreseeable period of time through methodological tools, under a modern concept of government management and monitoring.

Gender equality policies

• Publication of Law No. 21.001, year 2017: On a Gender Approach in the military branches. It has a new Echelon of the Army Personnel Service.

• Publication of Law No. 21.216: Gender Parity for the Constituent Process, published in the Official Gazette on March 24, 2020, the purpose of which is to establish a balance in the representation of women and men in the Convention that will draft the new Political Constitution of Chile.
