GA74 - Side Event - Women, Peace and Security: Towards Full Participation
Italy and the Philippines, the 2026 Co-Chairs of the Women, Peace and Security Focal Points Network (WPS-FPN), in partnership with UN Women, which serves as the Network Secretariat, cordially invite you to a Ministerial-Level Side Event during High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The event will be held under the theme, Delivering on WPS: Consolidating Implementation and Accountability in a Fragmented Security Landscape. The meeting will convene ministers and senior representatives of UN Member States and international and regional organizations participating in the WPS Focal Points Network, together with representatives of the United Nations, women peacebuilders, youth peacebuilders, and other invited stakeholders.
Marking the tenth anniversary of the WPS-FPN and building on the outcomes of the Rome meeting and previous meetings of the Network, the ministerial meeting will aim to secure collective high-level political commitment to anchor the WPS agenda firmly within national institutions and multilateral processes, recognizing it as a global framework revitalizing multilateralism, building more inclusive and effective institutions, and advancing sustainable peace.
Speakers will highlight the concrete actions they will take to increase political engagement, sustain financial support to meet the scale of the need, and more strongly integrate the foundational pillars of the WPS agenda – prevention, participation, protection, and relief and recovery – into defense and security decision-making.
*Delegations will be invited to intervene at ministerial level, as time allows.
