As Co-Chairs of the WPS Focal Points Network in 2020 – 2021, Canada and Uruguay co-organized this virtual side event during the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly with the support of UN Women. This event was an opportunity to reflect on the important role this Network plays in advancing the implementation of the WPS agenda, including the lessons learned, and best practices developed by Focal Points during these last two years. Ministerial and senior-level interventions were made by Network Members from African Union (AU), Bulgaria, Canada, Democratic Republic of Congo, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Namibia, Netherlands, Norway, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Sierra Leone, South Africa, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and Uruguay. Civil society representatives from the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP), Women’s Refugee Commission, and Women’s Regional Network presented their perspectives on these issues and identified gaps in the implementation of the WPS agenda. Uruguay and Canada also welcome Switzerland and South Africa as the next co-chairs of the Network for 2022.
