Sierra Leone

The first Sierra Leone National Action Plan (SiLNAP) 1 reflected the Government’s commitment, as well as accountability, to ensure the security of women and girls and enhance their direct participation in conflict prevention, resolution and peacebuilding efforts in Sierra Leone.

The second NAP, SiLNAP 2, which has six priority themes for the effective implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in Sierra Leone, has incorporated in these themes the core values of prevention of violence, protection, participation  and recovery, as enshrined in UNSCRs 1325 and 1820. These themes range from Prevention of Conflict in Communities to addressing the root causes at all levels.

The National Machinery for the Advancement of Women and Promoting Gender Equality provided overall technical coordination from concept development, budgeting, resource mobilization, stakeholder engagement, validation and adoption of the national action plan. The office also provided technical leadership for the final evaluation of the first NAP which formed part of the basis for the crafting of the second NAP. Members of parliament will support the full implementation of  SiLNAP II through an intensified Localisation Strategy, which commenced under SiLNAP I.
